Mis-en-scene blog

This blog is going to address the costume, sound, props and lighting in the film. The costumes are main implements in the story line. Dream who is playing the villain/obsessed best friend, will change her outfit throughout the entire film as she's trying to slowly become paulanka. In the first scene of the film, dream is wearing glasses and her hair tucked inside of her hoodie. This costume is supposed to represent an insecure character. It correlates with the story that Dream had just moved to the state and is shy. As paulanka and dream became closer, dream started by removing her hood and glasses. This represents her slowly getting more comfortable. This doesn't present its self as a worrisome action but at the end it will contribute to the rising action of the film. As the scenes continue Dream removes her jacket completely and adds false eyelashes. Lastly she has the exact same hairstyle and backpack as paulanka. By this part of the film, Dream and Paulanka look extremely similar. A main prop used in this film is a red notebook used as a diary. In the scenes where the best friends are hanging out with each other, dream is writing in her notebook. It looks innocent but the purpose of the notebook will reveal itself at the end of the film. Dream is secretly writing down details about Paulanka that will guide her to taking over her entire life. The main horror element is implemented at the end of the film when Dream arrives at her house. As she walks in her room, low lighting and diegetic footsteps are heard with scary/low base background music. There will be pictures of Paulanka and her family on her walls. There will be a scene with a close-up angle showing what is written in the diary and every action previously made by dream will make sense. This leaves the audience eager to find out what Dream does to take over Paulanka's life.
