Genre research: Eli
For this blog I researched the movie "Eli". this movie focuses on a young boy with a weak immune system who is basically allergic to the world. Because of his condition his parents bring him to a specialist doctor who resides in a secluded area in hopes of finding a cure for him. As the movie progresses the characters discover that the place they're in isn't how they expected, and they discover the secrets of the specialist and her practices. This movie was drama horror, so it had elements of a horror movie as well as of a drama movie. But today I'm going to be focusing on the horror aspect. The movie Eli made use of many over the shoulder shots, as well as many POV shots. This was done so that it could be like the viewer was experiencing the situation firsthand. The film also specifically used headshots whenever the specialist was speaking, this emphasized the fact that the specialist, Dr. Horn, would have some relevance regarding the lab and the secrets. This worked as a form of foreshadowing, and it is a technique I would like to make use of in the future when filming our final task. Eli had very cool props as well. A reoccurring prop within the movie was his hazmat suit that he used, this helped to really draw the plot together. The movie also used interesting sound techniques. During suspenseful scenes in the movie when something scary was about to happen, then the background music would become increasingly louder and faster in pace. This set the mood for the scene and helped to evoke emotions from the viewer, keeping them on the edge of their seats
