Genre research: Romance

The romance genre specializes in more emotional and affectionate aspects than action or Horror. So rather than focusing on Mis-En-Scene, romance movies focus more on Camera angles, movements and shots, and sound. Many romance movies use close-up shots, POV shots, Over the shoulder shots, and eye level shots. These shots can vary depending on what the romance movie focuses on. But the reason romance movies use such close depictive shots is because romance movies focus on intimate moments that are often portrayed on the face eyes and mouth. Like in the notebook, the camera mainly uses a close up shot to show the emotions crossing the face of the couple and to emphasize the closeness and the impact of the words. Although props and setting are important, for the romance genre me and Mac wouldn't need to invest as much into Mis-En-Scene. This makes this Genre easy to produce because we would just to perfect our Camera work. Romance movies mainly emphasize on dialogue, and non-diegetic sound to appeal to the viewers. Romance movies use non-diegetic sound to set the mood of the moment and bring attention to the severity of the words being exchanged, although there is diegetic sound its not as influential. An example of this can be found in the movie a walk to remember or 10 things I hate about you, you'll notice that the most emotionally impactful scenes occur during intense dialogue. Although this would be easy to film finding a way to incorporate romance into our pitch would be difficult so I don't think we'll be able to do it.
